Every Overwatch 2 Team Qualified for Saudi Arabia’s Esports World Cup

What is the Esports World Cup?

As an ostensibly third-party tournament with a prize pool quadruple the OWCS Dallas Major, the Esports World Cup (EWC) is difficult to comprehend. The tournament is bankrolled by the Esports World Cup Foundation, itself a subsidiary of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. EWC is one small part of a larger push by Saudi Arabia to diversify the economy and improve the country’s global image.

The EWC consists of tournaments in many games. Alongside Overwatch 2, there are tournaments in Data 2, Starcraft II, Tekken 8, Apex Legends, and sixteen other titles. Esports organizations earn points by placing high in each distinct tournament and these points contribute to an overall club championship. Alongside the tournament, the Esports World Cup Foundation also bankrolls the Esports World Cup Club Support Program (CSP), which grants large stipends to 30 selected esports organizations to enter as many EWC titles as possible. Overwatch 2 is no exception. Most large international organizations that signed Overwatch teams in recent weeks are part of the Club Support Program. Still, any team can qualify for EWC tournaments regardless of if they are part of the CSP. Sixteen teams will qualify for the Overwatch 2 tournament, held July 24-28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In this list, we go over which Overwatch teams qualified for the Esports World Cup, how they qualified, the region they qualified from, the country or region the esports organization is based in, any previous names the team competed under, whether or not they are part of the Club Support Program, and their roster.
