Can KDM lead WASP X OHHHH NO to victory against their arch-rival?

Before the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Stage 3 Group Stage, Kryix sat down with KDM, Flex Support for WASP X OHHHH NO.

For the uninitiated, tell us about yourself. Where are you from? What’s your history in competitive Overwatch?

Hey, I’m KDM, a flex support from France. I don’t have much experience in competitive Overwatch. I’ve always been more of a ranked player. I’ve been playing Ana for more than 6 years now, reaching Rank 1 multiple times in ranked. I’ve played in OTP teams before, but never got the same results that we’ve recently had.

Your teammate Qrxu described you as the team’s captain. What kind of leader are you?

I could describe myself as the team captain because I’ve made the team from scratch, DMing most of the players 2 days before the FACEIT League roster lock, and asking them to join without any scrim or tryouts. When we're in officials, I’m always trying to calm things down when we struggle, and to make gameplans when our tank is too busy spawn killing everyone… Helped by Laking and Virtuzz, our managers, I also take care of signups and registrations for tournaments and matches.

The win over Hypnos during the Swiss stage was a real statement. How did you take them down?

Like we did with every other team, we played like it was a ranked game. We don’t scrim and mostly have no practice except from ranked and official tournament games, so we’re adapting to the enemy team during the match for most of our opponents. The scary player of Hypnos was of course Kio, who ended up clutching lost fights multiple times on the first map, but when we understood he was the carry, we started focusing him more and ended up winning both 2nd and 3rd maps, and the game. I would say the victory against Hypnos was what we needed for the team’s mentality, since we won against 2 other very good teams after that match.

What is your team's ceiling? What is your goal for the tournament in terms of success?

We’re currently aiming to get Top 8, and of course higher if possible. Winning against AWW YEAH would be insane for us. In the meantime, we remain undefeated in FACEIT League Expert division, and will try to win the whole thing and access the Master Division.

You have a Junkrat specialist on your team, Redmoosegoat. Is he your secret weapon? And might we see him take on Gurkmeister when you face AWW YEAH in your first match?

For the lore, Gurkmeister is our initial Junkrat player (currently playing with us in FACEIT League). He decided to play with AWW YEAH in these OWCS, and we wanted to keep a Junkrat, so we asked RedMooseGoat, who is indeed our secret weapon on some maps. We’re looking forward to seeing Red facing Gurk, but we’re pretty sure AWW YEAH will not be playing Chazm and Gurk but Isak and Ken instead, because that would give them an advantage for sure.

Speaking of AWW YEAH, is your team’s name a pastiche of their name?

Yes, our team name is of course a pastiche to their name. We did not have any better idea, and went with it.

Are you looking forward to Juno’s release? How might she shake up the metagame?

I didn’t have the chance to try Juno, since I was in an Overwatch LAN during the test weekend, and didn’t have much time to try it between the matches. Based on what I saw, I can’t tell if it’s going to be changing everything, but I will play the hero for sure.

Watch WASP X OHHHH NO take on AWW YEAH as OWCS Stage 3 kicks off in earnest this weekend.
