Before the Overwatch Champions Series North America Stage 1 Main Event, Kryix chatted with Wrecking Ball ace and newfound Mauga enjoyer Canon "Stryder" Miller, tank for Atlanta Phoenix Guard x Pirates in Pyjamas.
Did you feel confident in the Mauga meta before the Beluga’s Platoon match?
We were very confident in the Mauga meta before the match. Kronik is the best Sombra in Contenders by far, and when you have EMP every fight the composition is easy.
Do you think Mauga suits your strengths as a tank player? If so, why?
Mauga suits me well. I feel like I understand the push and pull of the comp which allows for creative fight plans and a lot of aggressive plays.
You’ve been on Pirates in Pyjamas for over a year, what’s your fondest memory so far?
Beating Afterlife during Contenders Summer Series was the greatest moment for us. I knew it’d be a close series so I did a watch party at my house and the series ended 2-2 [map 5] 1-1 [round 3] 99%-99% with us winning.
What are Mercury’s strengths as a coach?
Mercury is really good at simplifying the game for each individual player. She takes complicated metas and makes them more digestible for everyone, everyone knows their role because of her.
Your first-round opponent is Timeless––which of their players are you most watching out for?
The player I’m most looking out for is Rokit. If unchecked, he can solo carry fights, especially on Tracer.
Are you preparing to face Raikker or iCy in the Mauga mirror?
With the newest hotfix Mauga nerf, it’s unclear if Mauga will even be played, but we haven’t prepared for any specific tank matchup.
