Before the Overwatch Champions Series EMEA Stage 1 Main Event, Kryix chatted with Jonne "ilppi13" Leinonen, flex support for Sheer Cold.
You came in cold off the bench for map 5 (Shambali Monastery) against AWW YEAH. Was the plan always for you to be subbed in if it went to map 5?
We had already beaten AWW YEAH earlier in the groups on that map with the same lineup, so we were confident in closing the series if we went to Shambali. We've been practicing double flex support on some of the maps, so I knew I would be playing if it went to map 5.
What do you think of this Mauga meta we find ourselves in?
It's an interesting meta; some would say it's boring. We have a bias towards countering it with Zarya, but personally, I'm a big fan of these fast, brawly comps. It feels reminiscent of the Moira-Reaper comp we played during our Contenders run last summer.
Which of your teammates is the biggest difference-maker?
Definitely xzodyal, our youngest player, [he] possesses pure raw talent. Not only can he outclass any hitscan player in the EU currently, but he also has the mechanics to pick up any hero if necessary. Despite having only a few days to learn Sombra for this meta, he has already demonstrated that he is a threat to any team we will encounter in the Main Event.
Speaking of the Main Event, your first-round match is against Spacestation Gaming. What player on SSG are you watching out for?
Definitely FunnyAstro, we're looking to out beatmax him [build and use Sound Barrier before him] in any way we can.
