Before the Overwatch Champions Series Champions Clash LAN in Hangzhou, China, Kryix sat down with Galaa, flex support player for Virtus.pro.

Ben: To start, your coach SMASH said on a podcast that he saw potential in moving you to a true Flex Support role. Was moving you to that position his idea or something you were already interested in?

Galaa: Back then, he wanted a really good flex support and I would fill the role of main support. That didn't happen so the second best idea was moving me to flex support and getting a good main support. I always wanted to play flex support, so yeah, you can say I was interested.

Ben: Was that partially due to a lack of other strong flex supports in EMEA? There were five OWCS EMEA teams that had a Korean or American player at flex support (TM, TU, Sakura, Vision, and Al Qadsiah).

Galaa: He just wanted one of the 5 best flex supports in the world pretty much. For SMASH, every other flex support is not good enough.

B: Are you one of the 5 best flex supports in the world?

G: Not yet, first I would have to prove it.

B: What do you hope to get out of the SOOP Cup?

G: LAN experience, pretty much.

B: Have you had any Korean scrims yet? How do they compare to EU teams?

G: Basically, they can play any hero in the game while EMEA players can play 2 heroes max. Koreans are way above everyone else but I believe some players can match them in terms of aim and skill. Maybe not brain.

B: How do you think the 5th best team in Korea (so, T1 or ONSIDE GAMING) would place in your region?

G: T1 would be top 3 in my opinion. The other team, 4th or 5th, minimum.

B: Where is the meta trending? I’ve heard talk of D.Va compositions.

G: No one knows yet.

In the SOOP Cup, Virtus.pro beat WAY, who finished 4th in OWCS Korea, 3-0 but lost to T1, who finished 5th/6th OWCS Korea, 0-4.

After the tournament, I asked Galaa a few more questions.

B: How has this result affected your confidence going into Champions Clash?

G: It didn't change, I have the same passion. I would say it reminded me how painful it is to lose. I really hate losing.

B: What adjustments do you hope to make before Champions Clash?

G: Play better.

Virtus.pro kick off their OWCS Champions Clash run against Once Again on Friday, April 18th, at 2:20 AM EDT (8:20 AM EET).
